The relationship between previously determined factors (duration, refraction status, RD type, presence of systemic disease, vitreous degeneration, number of detached parts of retina and localizations, number and type of retinal tears, presence of proliferative vitreoretinopathy, uveitis, vitreous hemorrhage and hipotony before surgery, surgical technique) and complications were evaluated for each case. Results: Mean age of the patients was found to be 45,9 (range, 4 to 78) years. No statistically significant relationship was detected between refraction status, RD type, presence of systemic disease, vitreous degeneration, number of detached parts of retina and localizations, number and type of retinal tears, presence of proliferative vitreoretinopathy, uveitis, vitreous hemorrhage and hipotony before surgery, surgical technique and complications (p>0,05). The duration between initial diagnosis and surgery was seen to increase the rate of complications significantly (p<0,05).Conclusion: Complication that occured during or after retinal detachment surgery seem to be closely associated only with time of surgery among the preoperative factors. Keywords: Retinal detachment, Preoperative factors, ComplicationTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2004, 13:59-67
