New Developments In The Diagnosis And Treatment Of Dry Eye

* Prof.Dr., Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Göz Hastalıkları AD,**Uz.Dr., Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Göz Hastalıkları AD, ANKARA Dry eye is a disorder of precorneal tear film which is associated with various kinds of symptoms, signs and ocular surface problems due to the deficiency of secretion or increased evaporation of tears. Dry eye may result from decreased tear secretion, corneal and conjunctival surfacing anomalies, corneal wetting problems, corneal epithelial defects or lipid layer anomalies.
The treatment of dry eye consists of finding the cause and avoiding the conditions that agrevate the symptoms of dry eye. The aims of treatment are continuous lubrication and preservation of existing tears. Treatment may be classified as medical treatment, punctal occlusion and surgical treatment. In this article, the new developments of the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye will be discussed.Keywords: Dry eye, Etiology, Treatment
