*Uz.Dr., SSK Ulucanlar Göz Hastanesi 2. Göz Kliniği, ANKARA Objective: A prospective pilot study to evaluate the efficiency of lower lid everting sutures for recurrent involutional entropion in non-cooperative and/or systemically compromised patients.
Material and Methods: Six patients with recurrent entropion who were operated on by different techniques were included in the study. They were at the ages of 78, 80, 80, 81, 86 and 90 and were poor candidates for re-operation because of their systemic and mantal status. 4/0 chromic catgut sutures through inferior fornix, inferior retractors and the lid skin were placed. The sutures were left in place for 4 weeks and removed afterwards if not fallen by itself.
Results: Entropion was corrected in all patients by the next day and patients were satisfied. Normal lid position continued after removal of the sutures.
Conclusion: There are many procedures for correcting this type of lower lid deformity but most have a high recurrence rate. This technique is probably the simplest, yet effective. It requires minimal anesthesia, involves minimum tissue manipulation and can be completed in a few minutes. It has been used as a primary procedure, but we believe it is the most suitable technique in recurrent cases of systemically compromised and non-cooperative elderly patients. Keywords: Entropion, Everting sutures, involutional entropion
