We present two cases of chronic papilledema, one due to pseudotumor cerebri and the other due to ocular hypotony. Orbital ultrasonogrophy was performed due to persistence of optic nerve head edema which demonstrated drusen like bodies of optic nerve head.
Control ultrasonography of the first case revealed disappearance of the drusen bodies that lead us the diagnosis of refractile bodies of optic nerve.
Long standing papilledema may lead to accumulation of refractile bodies which may cause the persistence of optic nerve head edema. Keywords: Chronic papilledema, refractile bodiesTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2005, 14:40-44
