aGöz Hastalıkları AD, Dicle Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, DİYARBAKIR Objective: Frontalis sling surgery results in advanced congenital ptosis by using facia lata were evaluated.
Material and Methods: 19 eyelids of the 18 cases with congenital ptosis who had undergone frontalis suspension surgery using facia lata between March 2001-March 2003 were included in this study. All cases had less than 4 mm of levator muscle action in the affected eyelids. A comprehensive preoperative examination including visual acuity, lid crease position, the Bell reflex, extraocular eye movement, jaw-winking phenomenon, examination of the fundus, was performed on all patients. Full correction or ≤ 1 mm of residual ptosis with a good lid contour is considered as a succesful result.
Results: Six (33.33%) cases were female; twelwe (66.67%) were male. Mean age ± SD was 12.22 ± 7.6 ( range, 4 to 27) years. Ptosis was corrected in all cases after a mean follow up of 10.66 ± 8.0 (3 to 24) months. The observed postoperative complications were exposure keratopathy in 1 case and entropion in 1 case.
Conclusion: Frontalis suspension with autogenous facia lata appears to be an effective treatment for congenital ptosis with poor levator function. Keywords: Ptosis, autogenous facia lata, frontalis slingTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2005, 14:13-16
