Objective: To report the results of endoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy surgery.
Material and Methods: Endoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy and silicone tube implantation were performed on thirteen of patients with chronic dacryocystitis who were operated on between February 2001 and December 2004. All silicone tubes were removed after approximately 8 (4-10) months.
Results: All symptoms resolved in twelve patients but one patient’s symptoms did not resolve after surgery. A subsequent surgery was required in another patient who had granulation tissue formation in the punctal area secondary to the silicone tube. Mean follow-up was 25.92 (12-43) months.
Conclusion: Endoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy is less invasive, has less complication and similar success rate compared to the classical external dacryocystorhinostomy. Thus, endoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy might be considered as first choice in chronic dacryocystitis. Keywords: Dacryocystitis, endoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy, lacrimal system surgeryTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2005, 14:105-109
