Cataract extraction by phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation was performed to the left eye of sixty-year-old man without any systemic disease. No complications occurred during surgery. Incision site was sutured with an interrupt 10/0 monofilament suture. Choroidal detachment which was more prominent superior half was noted on postoperative first day examination. Choroidal detachment resolved spontaneously three weeks later.
Spontaneous choroidal detachment may develop after cataract extraction by phacoemulsification. Medical therapy may be preferred instead of surgical intervention. Ultrasonography is helpful for objective evaluation for follow-up.Keywords: Phacoemulsification, choroidal detachment, hypotonyTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2005, 14:137-139
