There are many variations about the origin of the ophthalmic artery. Most of these variations occur in the fetal period. Knowing the variations and the relation of the ophthalmic artery with the optic nerve will help the surgeon to choose the operative technique and will probably decrease the risk of complication. In our study, the ophthalmic artery originated from the internal carotid artery from the medial, lateral and middle sides of the anterior part of the artery. The ophthalmic artery originated from the medial part of the I.C.A. in 55%, from the lateral part in 25% and from the middle part in 20%. In our study, we did not see any variations about the origin of the ophthalmic artery and also we didn't notice an artery arising from the cavernous sinus. We also noticed that the right and the left sides had nearly the same measurements. Keywords: Ophthalmic artery, Optic nerve, AnatomyTurkiye Klinikleri Oftalmoloji 1997, 6:188-191
