Material and Methods: 60 eyes of 17 male (56.7%) and 13 female (43.3%) cases (mean age: 53.7±5.4, range: 39-65 years) with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and 60 eyes of 16 female (53.3%) and 14 male (46.7%) cases (mean age: 52.4±5.6, range: 40-66 years) with chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) were included to our study. Axial lenghts and spheric values of refractive errors of the two groups were compared statistically by paired t-test.
Results: The mean of the axial lenghts of the eyes with POAG was 24.4±0.4 mm (23.9-25.4 mm), while it was 23.7±0.3 mm (23.1-24.5 mm) in the eyes with PACG. The mean of the spheric values of refractive errors of the eyes with POAG was -0.9±1.0 D (-3.0 - +1.0 D), while it was 1,4±1.01 D (-1.0 - +2,75 D) in the eyes with PACG. All of these diffirences were found to be statistically significant (P=0.000).
Conclusion: The axial lenghts were found to be longer in the eyes with POAG. The eyes with POAG had higher prevalence of myopia while the eyes with PACG seemed to have more hyperopia. Keywords: Glaucoma, axial lenght, myopia, hyperopiaTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2005, 14:167-172
