Our Phacotrabeculectomy Results

aGöz Hastalıkları AD, Abant İzzet Baysal Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BOLU Objective: To evaluate the short-term results of phacotrabeculectomy of 56 patients in terms of visual acuity, intraocular pressure and number of antiglaucomatous drugs used.
Material and Methods: We applied facoemulsification and trabeculectomy with 5-FU under topical anesthesia. Visual acuity, intraocular pressure of patients and the number of antiglaucomatous drugs used were recorded pre and postoperatively.
Results: The mean age of 26 female and 30 male patients were 67.09 ± 11.17 years. Preoperative visual acuity was 0.76 ± 0.90 in logMAR system. It was 0.54 ± 0.80 postoperatively (p= 0.001). Preoperative mean intraocular pressure was 19.90 ± 6.17 mmHg and it was 1.92 ± 3.38 mmHg postoperatively (p= 0.00). The number of drugs used preoperatively was 2.79 ± 1.26. It was 0, 52 ± 0.91 postoperatively (p= 0.00).
Conclusion: It can be concluded that phacotrabeculectomy is a safe and effective procedure in the treatment of patients with cataract and glaucoma.Keywords: Phacotrabeculectomy, trabeculectomy, glaucoma, cataractTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2006, 15:121-126
