aGöz Hastalıkları AD, Mersin Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, MERSİN Postoperative necrotizing scleritis is an inflammatory disease usually occurring after multiple surgeries at the surgical site in patients with collagen vascular or autoimmune diseases. An 18 years old healthy female patient operated for strabismus 3 months ago applied to our clinic for a recent onset ocular pain, redness and a greyish- black color change appeared in the nasal side of her eye. The anterior segment examination revealed a large scleral thinning area with 3 eyelashes on it with an overlying intact conjunctiva. A diagnosis of necrotizing scleritis secondary to foreign body reaction due to eyelashes was made and prompt treatment was started with topical and systemic antiinflammatory drugs together with the surgical extraction of the eyelashes. Keywords: Necrotizing scleritis; postoperative complications; foreign bodiesTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2007, 16:204-206
