Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is one of them. A nonhodgkin lymphoma patient with CMV retinitis is presented in this paper. CMV retinitis is rarely seen in patients with lymphoma. Clinically it is difficult to differentiate this disease from intraocular lymphoma.
A 29 years old man had visual complaints during the chemotherapy which he received for nonhodgkin lymphoma. Since the patient was thought to have CMV retinitis based on the clinical features and MRI findings, we also examined the serum CMV IgG, IgM and CMV DNA levels to support the diagnosis. Determination of the CMV antibodies in serum and high CMV DNA level in cerebrospinal fluid specimen, increased the probability of the CMV retinitis diagnosis. The patient was started on intravenous ganciclovir treatment. Visual complaints and retinal lesions of the patient ameliorated. Unfortunately, the patient died due to primary disease. Keywords: Lymphoma, non-hodgkin; cytomegalovirus retinitisTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2007, 16:275-278
