aGöz Hastalıkları AD, bPediatri AD, Mersin Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, MERSİN Cytosine arabinoside (Ara-C) is an antineoplastic agent used in the treatment of lymphoma and acute nonlymphocytic leukemia. The severity of side effects like myelotoxicity, central nervous system, gastointestinal system and ocular toxicity depends on the dosage and duration of the Ara-C therapy regime. Ocular toxicity findings like conjunctival hyperemia, central punctuate epithelial keratitis, refractile epithelial microcyts, subepithelial deposits and corneal edema might be seen in 40-80% of the patients receiving high dose Ara-C treatment, and usually resolves spontaneously following cessation of the regimen. Topical corticosteroid drops are used both for relieving patients' subjective complaints and prophylaxis of the ocular toxicity. Here we discuss the findings and the treatment of ocular toxicity due to high dose Ara-C in a child patient with acute myeloblastic leukemia. Keywords: Cytarabine; toxicity; keratitisTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2007, 16:279-281
